Free Will for the Week

  • Nov. 18th, 2007 at 10:27 AM
My weekly horoscope from Rob Brezsny is:

'On September 13, 1759, a small contingent of British troops took less than an hour to rout a few thousand French troops in a battle near Quebec City. It was a turning point in the history of North America, leading to events that ensured English speakers would dominate the continent. I foresee a comparable pivot just ahead for you, Aquarius. Seemingly small events that last a short time will yield momentous consequences. To help guarantee that they unfold in your favor, be like the British troops were back then: well-prepared, highly disciplined, and very lucky. '

What does this even mean? Why am I being told to be like a soldier? I don't like soldiers. Should I write Rob Brezsny and tell him that telling me to be like a soldier, or a whole troop of soldiers no less, is counterproductive? I mean, it really wasn't ok for all those troops to be here fighting over something that wasn't even theirs, and that the victors would kill so very many indigenous peoples in their rampage to populate the land. So it makes me wonder, if I take Rob's adivce, and discipline myself to create outcomes beneficial to me, does that mean at some point i'll be metaphorically sweeping the land clean of indigenous peoples? And will that be ok because it's metaphorical? Honestly, I don't even know what it means to metaphorically sweep the lands of indigenous peoples when it comes to my single, individual life, but it sure doesn't sound good.
